You may choose whichever you like. The recommended height depends a lot on how the sled will be used. If you use your sled mostly for fitness training or for covering long distances, then the lower model will likely suit you better.

Kicksled is a classic.
Several generations have used the ESLA kicksled. Nowadays, all age groups can improve their fitness by using a kicksled, which brings great pleasure in moving around during wintertime.

The kicksled has been around for over 100 years.
In the 20th century, it was used as transportation, in the 21st century a kicksled can offer a wider range of experiences.
Kicksled has a wooden frame and steel runners. You can excercise and have fun on ice and snow.

In Finnish hearts, the kicksled is an iconic piece of design, representing safety and dependability. A great deal of nostalgia is connected with the kicksled. The design of the kicksled has changed very slowly over the years, and the best raw materials remain the same; Finnish Birch and spring steel are still the elements needed to produce a great kicksled.
All ESLA kicksleds have a birch frame and runners made of galvanized spring steel.

The kicksled is also useful in off-road conditions.

Especially when it has been equipped with sliding runners. Wondering at nature by kicksled is a great, ecologically sound exercise, without pollution or noise. Kicksledding can suit everybody as it is easy to learn.

National championships have been arranged in Finland for several years, and there is even a World Championship. The Kickspark is our competition model. A good kicker can reach speeds of around 40km/h.
The popularity of kicksled races is growing, because people have lots of fun there and everybody can join in the races. Nowadays it is one of the few competitions, where winning is not the most important thing.

The kickspark is a steel or alumimium framed vehicle designed especially for competition and serious athletes. Kickspark is fast, handles well and can tackle rough surfaces. Of course, there’s nothing to stop you taking your kickspark to the shops if you want to!
Model development started in 1990 and has resulted in the latest model, which is preferred by many kicksled racers. The body of the kickspark is made of high quality steel or aluminium and the runners are made from special galvanised steel.

The kickspark was designed by multiple kicksled champion Hannu Vierikko. Since 1980 Hannu Vierikko has been an enthusiastic kicksledder and can really move on a kickspark! He has had a lot of success in racing- winning more than thirty kicksled world championships.

The kickspark is light but very easy to ride. The body is many times more rigid than that of an ordinary kicksled and that guarantees a stable slide at high speeds. The riding position is easy to adjust, because the kickspark handlebar has a big height adjustment range and an upholstered multiple position handle.
Kickspark may be equipped with ice runners or sliding runners if necessary.

What is Natural Track Luge Racing? What’s a luge? The word "luge" comes from the French word for "sled”; in Germany and most of Europe it’s known as "rodel". Whatever you call it, the sport of luge is growing fast! The first known international luge race took place in 1883 with 21 competitors representing six nations. Most of us living in North America know luge racing as a sport in the Winter Olympics. However, luge racing is relatively new to the Games having made its debut in the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics. There are two types of luge racing: artificial track and natural track. Artificial track racing is what you usually see on American TV. The course is a man made half-pipe that winds down a mountain, uses artificial refrigeration to keep the track coated with ice, and employs banked curves to keep riders in the “tube”. Natural Tack racing is held on an unaltered natural track. The course is more like a trail complete with a series of turns and straight-aways. It cannot be artificially cooled and the turns are not banked. Consequently, the sleds used in natural track racing need to be more maneuverable since the rider must steer the sled through turns and avoid obstacles. The sled’s runners are similar in design and function to that of a downhill ski. The flat portion of the runner is used to build speed on straight-aways and the edges are used to carve turns. Natural track sleds also employ flexible sides and the use of a steering rein in order to affect a change in direction. See the United States Luge Association website for more details on natural track racing The explosion in the sport of natural track racing has created the need for sleds capable of navigating a race course under a wide range of surface conditions. The traditional Davos design which has served riders well in years past has given way to a newer, high-tech, more capable sled. With speeds approaching 60 mph, quality and engineering are paramount importance. Graf Sleds has answered this need with its Z-Series product line. The Z-Series was designed from the ground up to be a natural track racing sled. A collaborative effort between Graf engineers and famous Swiss racer-designers, the Z-Series is manufactured using proprietary techniques along with the highest quality materials. For example, seasoned ash hardwood, the same wood used in baseball bats, provides the best weight-to-strength performance. Special steel alloy is used for the sled’s runners because of its sliding properties on snow and ice. Flexible couplers that connect the runners to the sled allow the rider to impart the correct amount of flexing needed for steering. It’s not by accident that world class natural track racers use Graf Z-Series sleds.

14. What are the major physiological benefits?   Close

With regular workouts you can expect to stretch the hamstring, strengthen and tone the quadriceps and calf muscles and trim down and firm up the thighs and buttocks. By adopting the proper kicking technique – lifting the knee in front, you will also strengthen your diagonal lower abdominals and lower back. 

Which muscles do you utilize the most? 
The standing leg does a surprising amount of work during the kick cycle of the other leg and is the leg in which fatigue is first felt if legs are not changed frequently enough. At the start of the cycle, the leg is held almost straight with the foot slightly flexed and with the heel off the footplate. All the weight is on this leg as well as vertical and fore-aft forces generated by the kicking action and consequent body movement. The muscle work (which is effectively isometric) is mostly felt in the quads, but almost all groups of lower leg muscles are used (tibialis and calf - gastrocnemius and soleus). The standing leg is straight at the end of the kicking cycle. The kicking leg goes through an extended movement cycle where muscles used and forces developed are very similar to running without the impact damage. So hamstrings, calves and glutes are the main muscles used. It should be noted that on the leg uplift prior to starting the cycle, the abdominals come into play as biceps/triceps to counteract the forwards-backwards body movement generated by the kick. Maximum efficiency of motion is gained by minimising up and down movement (hence the tendency of most competitive racers to fit back wheel lowering brackets so that there needs be less compensation for the height of the footboard) and by minimising forward-backwards movement of the body (use of shoulders and arms to steady body position). 

Could you give us a training schedule? 

If you want to be a fast on the scooter you have to kick fast. It’s so simple! Interval training is very good: 10 x 2 km at an average speed of 30 km/h with 2 minute rest is a typical session for a fit athlete. Long aerobic rides are very important, such as 40-70 km with an average speed of 20-25 km/h. Most people tolerate no more than two hard Kickbike workouts or races within one week. It is important to have recovery days in between and do some other sports like running or swimming, for instance. Of course you can do some easy kicking on your easy days, too. I want to participate in races! Sure! We offer you a piece of champions" equipment. There are races on long and short distances. Scooter sport is still small, but quickly growing, tactically rich and demanding. Join your local club, found one yourself or just ride as a freelancer.

15. What is the most difficult thing to learn ?   Close

To be relaxed all the time! Many people kick on too stiff legs. Using both feet equally is another thing to remember in the beginning. You kick only 3-4 times on one foot and then you change the kicking foot. A good Kickbiker can do a flying swap (small jump). After some learning both legs get more equal, not vice versa as some people falsely presume.
